Compare cheap flights to Cambodia

Cambodia has become one of the established tourist destinations in Southeast Asia. The French influence is still evident, not only in the colonial houses but in the crusty baguettes that are being sold early in the morning. Tourism is one of Cambodia’s biggest earners. In 1993 international tourist arrival was only slightly over 118,000. By 2009 it has risen to 2.2 million. The Angkor Historical Park remains the top draw for tourists coming to Cambodia.

Phnom Penh

Top draws are the Royal Place and the Silver Pagoda, which is covered in 5,000 silver floor tiles. Other attractions include the solid gold and diamond-encrusted Buddha, and the baccarat crystal and emerald Buddha. Close by is the National Museum. The markets sell intricate local handicrafts and beautiful, colorful and shimmering silks.

Siem Reap

It’s the home of Angkor Wat. The rose pink-tinted Banteay Srei is the most elaborately decorated temple in the complex. Ta Phrom could be surreal, with parts of the temple gripped by the roots of huge kapok trees. The hundreds of stone faces, some of them quite huge greet visitors when they wander over to Bayon.

Find the pristine and basically still unexplored beaches covered with fine white sand here. Just outside to town is the Ream National Park.

Cambodia: When To Go

Picking your spots to avoid the rainy season might be advisable.

Cambodia’s climate is tropical. Southwest monsoons occur from May until October. Precipitation is heaviest from September to October. From November until April, the northeast monsoon brings in the dry season, with January and February as the driest months. Average temperature ranges from 21 °C to 35 °C or 69.8 °F to 95 °F. During the rainy season the temperature can go down to about 22 °C or 71.6 °F. When the dry season sets in, temperature can soar to 40 °C or 104 °F at its peak.

The Best Time to Visit

The country remains relatively warm throughout the year but the best time to visit is between November and May, with November until February the coolest times and also the peak season for tourist arrivals. Explore in the morning, take a rest at midday and go out again in the afternoon in March up to May to avoid the hottest part of the day.
