Indonesia – Emerald of the Equator
Indonesia has over 18,000 islands, meaning it’s the biggest archipelago in the world. With lush landscapes and its position at the equator, many have given Indonesia the nickname “The Emerald of the Equator.”
It’s not hard to believe because when you visit, you’ll always find nature surrounding you. Even the country’s modern city Jakarta combines innovative buildings with acres of trees and natural sights.
Indonesia has many regions for you to explore. You might have heard of the top tourist destination called Bali, and it’s a favourite for many reasons. Bali is home to many of Indonesia’s most important temples, it has legendary beaches, spectacular highlands, and a unique culture of its own.
You’ll find the city of Jakarta in the Java region. Besides being Indonesia’s biggest city and capital, there are many places in the city to entertain you – theme parks, museums, historical heritage sites and religious temples like Prambanan and Borobudur, music festivals and more. Java is also known for the stunning Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park. You can tour Mount Semeru and Mount Bromo, and also the Tenggerese area that would remind you of Peru.
Other Indonesian regions you shouldn’t miss are the historic Maluki (Moluccas), Papua and Sulawesi for some spectacular scenery. Northern Sulawesi also has the best diving spots, but you shouldn’t leave out Bunaken, Togian Islands, and Wakatobi.
There’s plenty more you can do in Indonesia, so once you’ve gotten your fill of adventure, go unwind and treat yourself to a spa.
What you should know
Indonesia is a warm country and only has two seasons – rainy and dry. While the seasons differ per region, most of Indonesia’s dry season, including Bali and Java, is from April to October. Temperatures are cooler in the highlands, and there are even snow-covered peaks in Java. If you’re planning to visit Java’s Mount Bromo or Tana Toraja in Sulawesi, it’s best you bring a jacket.
Good news because Singaporeans can visit Indonesia for up to 30 days without a visa. So you can fly to Indonesia any time!
