Sapporo serves as the main transport hub of Hokkaido. Understandably, it needs more than just one air travel facility to deal with all the tourist and traveler influx. The city's air transportation needs are served by two airports: Okadama Airport (IATA: OKD, ICAO: RJCO) and New Chitose Airport (IATA: CTS, ICAO: RJCC).

Okadama Airport is intended for regional flights within Hokkaido. Located some 7.4 kilometers from the Sapporo city center, It provides scheduled airline services that are limited to flights within Hokkaido. This airport is also utilized by the Japan Self-Defense Forces and some corporate and general aviation operators. New Chitose Airport, on the other hand, is the largest airport in Hokkaido and is one of the busiest in Japan.

Sapporo: The Snow City

The city of Sapporo features a variety of attractions but it is arguably most famous for its snow. The Sapporo Snow Festival is the city's largest event. It features an ice sculpture competition participated by artists from different parts of the world.  Sapporo is also the location of Mt. Teine, a ski mountain with slopes for beginner and experienced skiers. Skiing is one of the main reasons tourists flock to Sapporo. There are many ski resorts in the area that are easily accessible by bus.
