Zamboanga City of Parks
Located in Mindanao, Zamboanga is home to many parks, beaches, and waterfalls. Fort Pilar was built by the Spaniards in 1635 to protect the city from pirates. It is said that the Chavacano language was born from the interaction between the Zamboangeño fort workers and their Spanish masters. The fort is now a shrine to Our Lady of the Pillar who is said to have made several apparitions in the city, the most notable being the one in 1897 when witnesses said she stood over the Basilan Strait and stopped the tsunami from devastating the city.
Pasonanca Park showcases the flora and fauna of the city. Attractions include the Tree House, often used as a honeymoon lodge, and the huge rock called Pulong Bato that is great for rock climbing.
