Flying into Colombo

The closest airport to Colombo is Bandaranaike International, which is located in the coast north of the city in Katunayake and near Negombo. From the airport to Colombo by taxi will take about one hour, including the traffic, which is half of the actual travel time. The secondary international airport is Rajapaksa International, located in Hambanthota and is five hours away from the city. Sri Lankan Airlines provides air service to and from Colombo, with flights coming from Asia and the Middle East, Europe and Australia. Emirates, Etihad, Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines, Qatar Airways and Malaysia Airlines are the other airlines that have flights to Colombo.

The National Museum of Colombo

You will understand the rich history of the country in the largest museum in Sri Lanka, which was established by then British Governor William Gregory in1877.

Galle Face Green

The promenade, called Galle Face Green is a half-kilometre long strip of open space running along the coast of the Indian Ocean, affording visitors a wonderful view of the ocean. It runs parallel to Galle Road. There are still some cannons in the area that were used during the war.

Kelaniya Temple of Sri Lanka

It is located just eight kilometres away from Colombo. Situated in the Kelani River, the Buddhist temple is famous for its numerous sculptures and paintings.

Dehiwala Zoo

A German family established the zoo in 1926. It is now operated by the government and houses several mammals, birds, fish and reptiles. The late afternoon elephant show is its major attraction.
